Excellently staged and you may smartly dialogued, it will have zero higher challenge in the lifestyle down its very unappealing name.” [ 8 ]

Cobb), and you can a great scuffling celebrity (Evelyn Keyes) whoever sister (Nina Foch) has worked in the local casino and you can dated a beneficial corrupt detective (Jim Bannon). Although the patch uses a common trend, the latest characterizations was fresh therefore the activities good enough to overbalance. Dialogue was terse and you can topical, preventing the emotional, phoney contact. Unusual cam angles arrive occasionally so you can heighten attract and you may briefly arrest the eye. Solid teamplay by the Robert Rossen, increasing because the movie director-scripter, and Milton Holmes, totally new author and user manufacturer, along with helps with making this a smooth development.” [ 11 ]

It is mainly a question of seeing Mr. Powell go through his paces fashionably whenever you are a large throw out of stars and you can actresses render him classic help. Evelyn Keyes plays the good nothing lady which brings forth the fresh new finest in your and you can Ellen Received is the smooth and you will slinky vixen who becomes your towards the jams. Thomas Gomez are greasy as the villain and you can Lee J. Cobb do a new in a position journey because a tired police inspector just who eventually shuts the fact. A great amount of drinking and you can puffing is done from the most of the concerned.” [ 12 ]
